For 10+ years, State Street Pub has championed underground, up-and-coming, experimental and forward-thinking music and art in Indianapolis, across genres and mediums. We’ve strived to provide a safe and encouraging space to begin creatively, to meet new, like-minded folks and to absorb contemporary Midwestern independent music. Running a bar under the ethos of a DIY venue is rewarding, but it isn’t easy.

The traditional avenues of running SSP are no longer working. We give 100-percent of the door to the acts that play and only make money on food, beer and wine sales. The costs of staffing, stocking, repairs and the often unknown costs of operating a bar (sky-high business insurance, licenses, inspections, the occasional fine, etc) are swallowing up the entirety of revenue coming into the bar. Rather than change our artist/performer-centric approach to running a venue, and through the guidance and suggestions of many peers, patrons and other trusted sources, we are exploring new ways of doing things..

You can now support the pub from afar or without feeling the pull to have to be physically present at every gig. Places like SSP are important, but it isn’t always easy to hit a midweek noise gig when you have to work in the morning and sometimes you can’t find a sitter for the weekend punk ripper. As such, we are offering multiple tiers of support wherein you can directly support SSP (and get a few kick-backs in return!).
